Born and raised in Clearfield Pennsylvania, R. DENNING GEARHART graduated from the Clearfield Schools and recieved his Bachelor of Arts from Eisenhower College in Seneca Falls, N.Y., in 1973. Before attending the University of Pittsburgh, School of Law, from which he graduated in 1977, he spent a year as a VISTA volunteer where he served in a legal services agency in the Lower East Side area of New York City.

Following his admission to the Bar in October of 1977, he served for a year as Law Clerk to Clearfield County President Judge John K. Reilly, Jr. In addition to the private practice of law since his clerkship, R. DENNING GEARHART has served as an Assistant District Attorney, Public Defender, Divorce Master, Trustee in Bankruptcy, Guardian ad Litem (for children in dependency cases) and Arbitrator in civil cases. Active in his community, R. DENNING GEARHART has served on the Board of Directors of the Clearfield Area Agency on Aging, the Clearfield Hospital, the Easter Seal Society and United Cerebral Palsy. He is President of the Council at St. John's Lutheran Church. He is a past recipient of the National Easter Seal Society's "Gallantry Award."

He and his wife Melissa live in Clearfield with their children, Lydia Jane and Samuel Denning, their Lab Maxine, their cat Daisy, a Salamander and whatever other strays Sam invites home.
